How to create an index

Within the Fuel Merchant Portal, navigate to the Index/Strategies manager to create a new index.

Click on the blue Add Index button.

Fill out fields in the Add New Index pane on the right-hand side of your screen.

  • Enter a unique code for the index name.
  • Select an option from the Type drop-down.
  • Select an option for Source from the drop-down.
    • Manual indexes are created in the Gasology platform, are static, and are updated manually (in the Gasology platform or from Excel) by the user.
    • Excel sourced indexes are dynamic and updated using the Gasology Excel add-in, which allows you to build prices with off-platform price indexes. For more information on using the Excel plug-in, please contact the Gasology Support Team or visit our articles on using the Gasology Custom Access suite of tools.
  • Key in the numeric amount for the index (a dollar amount for any price index or gallons for an order index)
    • You may also use the green or red +/- buttons to adjust the amount.

Click Save to add the index. A green window will appear at the top of the screen, notifying you that your index has been successfully created.

Continue to add indexes until you have constructed the necessary components to build your product prices.

Editing indexes

Changes made to an index will flow through the Fuel Merchant Portal and be applied to all prices, structures, and programs to which they are assigned.

In the Index/Strategy Manager, review your list of existing indexes in the table. You can use the drop-down menu to filter for a particular index type. Click on the pencil icon for the index you would like to change—key in your preferred changes in the right-hand menu. The numeric fields will reflect your new index value and how much it was changed.

Once the necessary changes have been made to your index, click Save.

Remember: Updating all types of indexes or strategies applies those updates to all prices using them platform-wide.

Updating Excel indexes

Excel sourced indexes are updated dynamically from Excel by using the Gasology Custom Access tools. Visit the linked article for more information.
