How to offer contingent sales to your buyers

Merchants can offer contingent prices for their customers by creating a contingent structure.

Both originators and contingent sellers can get set up to offer contingent prices for their customers by creating a contingent structure. A dedicated closed program must also be built to accommodate your contingent pricing structure to keep your pricing strategy organized. Most importantly, a closed program will also ensure that only approved customers will be able to access your prices for contingent sales.

Note: only connected customers will be able to use your contingent prices. To let a customer access your contingent prices so they can price contingently off of your price, assign them to the appropriate program and structure combinations.

Who needs a contingent structure?

If you would like to offer your customers the option to price contingently off of your product price, you will need to set up a contingent structure. Each merchant in a contingent thread must set up a contingent structure (including the originator) until the fuel is sold to a final customer for end use.

Note: offering your price to customers for contingent pricing is different from designing a contingent price for selling a product.

If you’re a merchant selling to the final customer, you do not need to create a contingent structure. To price contingently off your supplier and sell to your customers, create a price in the design manager and toggle from Originator to Contingent for the Source Type in the Blending tab – this will base your price on your connected supplier’s product price. Add the product to a normal structure and program of your choosing and your contingent price will be available to your customers for reservation. Build a contingent structure

Start by navigating to the Structures manager. Here, we will build a new structure with the search type set to Contingent; this establishes the framework for contingent prices that will be made available to your customers.

Click the blue Add Structure button. Fill out the required fields; we recommend using a simple code and description mentioning “Contingent” for easy reference.

For the Search Type option, select Contingent. Under Price Details, be sure to select the option for Firm as this option cannot be changed once the structure is created. Indicative prices cannot be used for contingent prices at this time; thus, a firm price is required.

Click Save to create your contingent structure. After filling out the remaining tabs and adding the products you wish to offer for contingent sales on the platform, your customers with access to the newly created contingent structure will be able to build your prices into their product prices.

You will receive the standard notification email and in platform notifications when reservations are made with your contingent prices.
